I have been using Outlook 2003 for years. The past few months it has become super picky about how I close Outlook. If not closed PERFECTLY, it starts the next time with a lengthy checking of personal folders. Lately it is almost unusable in that it will check personal folders several times per day.
It also takes a LONG time for send/receive to load the new messages.
The whole program has become VERY slow.
I have 7,628 messages in my inbox and who knows how many in my sent file.
Just today, I upgraded to Outlook 2007 hoping that this will help.
In the bottom left hand corner, it says "35,805 items".

Would love to know how I can restore my Outlook's functionality and especially get it to stop checking personal folders all the time.

Regards,
Dan

And what size is your data file (Personal folders)?
If you select Personal Folders, rt click, Properties, in Advanced Tab, what
does it say for Format?
97 - 2002 maybe?
And what third party add-ins are you using, eg Anti Virus, sync tools, fax
software etc?
Why have you not used the Archive options?

My personal folder data file is 7446406 KB. Format is Personal Folders File.
I use efax and Avira for anti-virus.
I do use archive. Outlook prompts me periodically to archive and I always say yes. Maybe I should change the rules so that it archives more emails?
Thanks,
Dan

Thats a fairly large folder set 7.4gb and 7.6k msgs in your Inbox seems
rather a lot
I believe the default Auto Archive setting is for older than 6 months, maybe
you need to adjust, and baring mind the size of your current folder set you
might want to consider creating a new archive by year
