Hey there,
I have an ATI TV Wonder VE TV Tuner card and I want to know if there is any
alternatives of recording TV shows, like a VCR, away from ATI MMC
(MultiMedia Center). The first time I setup this program, it does not
include an option on which video capture format to use. I only have three
formats to capture video, AVI, Windows Media and MPEG. Unfortunately, ATI's
VCR format is not listed, the first time I setup the program. Currently I
have ATI MMC 7.9 and planning to upgrade it ASAP.
I read every messages on the message boards on the internet about people
complaining about which program to use for recording TV shows, instead of
the MMC, which people complained that the program causes to crash, whenever
they record a TV show. There's one program that I quite easy, it is called
MsDVR 2000 by Maksil (
www.maksil.com). I have not tried that program yet,
but there is some pros and cons to the program.
Pros:
- Easy to use interface
- Skip TV commericials easily with the Maksil Player, a complement to MsDVR
- Freeware
Cons:
- Requires at least Windows Media Player 7 or 8 (for XP) to view the
recorded program.
- Requires Windows Media Encoder 7.1. (ouch!)
- Program is not compatible with WME 9
- During tests, WME 7.1 together with WMP 9 crashes or the program is
unstable, when using the WDM drivers used are those that came from TV tuner
manufacturers, but using a generic/universal driver, seems to work okay.
- Drawback for the generic/universal WDM driver is that the application that
came with the TV tuner card may not work - at all.
There are other programs that allow you to record TV shows and even skip TV
commericals, such as SnapStream (
www.snapstream.com) , PowerVCR II
(
www.gocyberlink.com) and WinDVR (
www.intervideo.com). Unfortunately, those
programs are trial programs and others has features that are disabled in the
trial versions.
Has one of you people tried any of these programs? If so, did it work out
for you? If necessary, i need an information about your computer
specifications, this is essential, but it's optional.
If anyone wants to discuss about this topic, please do not hesistate to do
so. Thank you.
