Hi Folks,

We have a project here in Brazil of an Internet Appliance using XPe SP1. The
image we are working now has the MSJVM but, because of the end of the
support next year, we need to replace by another JVM.
Does anyone know of the footprint of the alternatives (Sun, IBM,...) and if
there are any restrictions in distributing them in an embedded device?

Thanks.

Alo Marcos!

I'm curious as to what it is in the image that depends on a JVM, is it your
application? Have you considered migrating from Java to .Net, particularly
to J#? BTW, we're componentizing .Net v1.1 for XPe-SP1 right now and should
be available soon, though XPe-SP1 already includes v1.0.

Check this out from Java World on migrating to J#:
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/j...migration.html
& from MSDN:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vjsharp/default.aspx

Thank you.
Andy

The appliance is a TV with Web Browsing capabilities, so we need it to be
able to display web sites that are using Java applets as well (like some
Brazilian internet bankings as an example). So it is really mandatory to
have the JVM in the image.

You are free to componentize JVMs from Sun or IBM for
example and include them in your runtime. There is no
licensing restriction around this.
