There are several. Snapstream, SageTV, PowerVCR II, WinDVR 3,
ShowShifter, and Video@Home are a few, I believe there are others. And
that's just for Windows.

was not free. Does anyone remember what it was called?

Thank you in advance.

Wow, I didn't know there were so many. Which ones are the best? It should
be good as ATI's MMC or better. Of course, it shouldn't be buggy.
Basically, I want a full-blown software PVR. Also, do I assume I can keep
MMC installed why using another program?

Thank you in advance.

What do you find lacking in the MMC8.7 Guide+ combination? Other than the
fact that the Guide+ will download program listings only 7 days in advance,
I'm quite happy with it.

Well, mostly it is the bugs in the software (crashes when recording with
scheduler) and other annoyances (more minor bugs). I was hoping to check
for alternative software PVRs.

I picked this up earlier in the summer and have been very happy with it.

And if you use all digital sound you know that you don't get any audio
unless you are in TVoD mode, MC9 does give you audio.

Is it just me or is it impossible to delete anything once it's recorded in
ATI's MMC?

For the timer recordings, I open the ATI Media Library, right click on the
item I want to delete, and select Delete.

For One touch recording file, I use the Recommend Content Deletion.

All this with MMC 8.7.

Interesting. I don't use digital cables or have anything fancy for digital
sound. Just good old stereo cables. However, I do notice TVoD and recordings
have lower volume.

I think this PVR software is a bit too much. I just need a video PVR.

It's been buggy for over a year. Below's a problem report I posted
last December - ATI never bothered replying to my multiple trouble
reports on this issue, and no one on usenet had suggestions. Like so
many others who post here, I wonder if I'm the only who experiences
this, or if others just aren't bothered by it. Here's what I posted
before:

If it is currently 9:00 PM, and I am watching channel 2, how can I
view the show description for a program on channel 4 at 11:00 PM?

With the software's current behavior, the instant I do anything to
with either the mouse or the keyboard that lets me view the program
details, the channel changes on the TV to the channel of the show I am
trying to view the details of. Since the program is not on yet, the
screen goes black, the sound cuts off, and the message "not currently
showing" comes on.

I think this makes the software virtually useless, as it is too
annoying to try to browse channels for later viewing if you can't
leave the TV tuned. My digital cable box let's me view the current
channel and see program details for a week from now without
interrupting current viewing, I'm confused why this software can't do
the same.
