Hi all, and thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I am unable to use Windows Update to download updates to Windows Defender;
my firm just updated their GP and automatic updates has been blocked. I'm
fine with that in most cases, but I travel regularly and am currently
infected with a trojan that I want to attempt to clean with Windows Defender.
They (the IT team) have said they'll fix my laptop when I'm back in the
office--but that isn't for two weeks, and I want to clear this.

Is there another location for downloading Windows Defender definition
updates? If not, can someone please tell me where the "definition file" is
located, and if it worth having someone else install and update THEIR
definitions and then copying that file to my laptop?

Any help would be appreciated; thanks very much.

You can download and save the current Defender definitions from this site
in either 32 or 64 bit OS versions... but we don't encourage bypassing
corporate policies... just so you know... ;o)

That did it, thanks! And, umm, yes, I would never encourage bypassing a
corporate policy.

Actually, I wouldn't ever encourage it, except for when the policy leaves me
more vulnerable.
