Windows Mail took all the info from Outlook Express which I was using before
installing Vista. My Contact list is alphabetic by first name. How do I
change it to Last Name?

Vista isn't gonna make it EASY for ya, Em... but there is a way.

When you open your Contact List, in the pane where you've got all your
e-mail addresses alphabetized by first name, right-click in the white area
.... that will open a list of options ... then choose SORT BY ... and even
the list that pops up from THERE probably doesn't include "LAST NAME" ...
but you can choose "MORE..." and from THAT list, you'll find Last Name.
Check it, and you'll now have a column, in your contact list, for last name
.... click the column header, and voilĂ* ... you're sorting by last name.

Your mileage may vary...

Bill

Thanks - Almost there. When I go through your steps I get the list in
descending order. When I click on it again or right-click on a white space
and choose "Ascending" it goes back to sorting by first name.

Well, it seems that if I select "Ascending" before selecting "Last Name" it
works partially. It sorts 1/2 my Contact list but the other 1/2 - either
there is no lLast Name (like a business) which is OK but about 1/2 of those
there is a last name - filled in in the data card.
I'm wondering if I can delete what they have and then import the whole data
file from Outlook Express.

You could be unconventional and enter first names in the last name box
and last names in the first name box! It would solve your sort problem
but might create others.

Hope this helps.
