I posted before regarding a password protected page - thanks to those who
responded.

I finally got all elements to work with regards to to the article "How to
create a password-protected Web page by using FrontPage 2003, Active Server
Pages, and an Access database" and realized that this is NOT exactly what I
am looking for.

What this article lead to is to password protects a page so you can VIEW
only with a password - - what I want is to give access to a particular
person to to add content to a particular page to update on a continuous
basis. Any thoughts, ideas, articles to help me understand how I can do
that?

Thanks again to all!

If you want to give one person (or a few) access to update your site, you need them to have password access to update the site.

This is not done from the browser, e.g Internet Explorer, but from FrontPage itself.
They need to:
1. Install the FP software.
2. Open your site in FP.
3. Amend the page in Design view.
4. Publish. (When they publish, the password for your site will be requested - just provide that to these users, preferably not my
EMail, say my snail mail or telephone. Or I suppose you could place it on a password protected page in your site.)

Another thought is to use a database, but I (or another) would have to get back to you on that.

Thanks, but this would give the user access to the entire site, no? I only
want them to access a page or so.

Or do you mean set a password from the server end to allow them access to a
folder on the server where that page in particular would reside?

Hey,

This is what you want, but it does require a little setup.

Thanks, this is along the lines of what I want but I can imagine there is a
way to do this without having to buy software/license.

How are others doing it out there? There has to be a way to give an
individual rights to post something on a page dialy - is the process that
complicated?

Thanks again.

You can do this with server-side scripting, such as ASP, ASP.net, PHP, etc. and a database, which
all depends on what is supported by your web host and what you know or are willing to learn.

Thanks Thomas,

I realize that much and I tried using a few asp pages and an access database
(sample code and instructions found in the internet) but what happened was
that it password protected the page so that you would need to logon to VIEW
the page. I want something similar but to allow posting of information on a
regular basis.

So I feel that I might be on the right track but not sure which way to go
from here and that is why I am posting - hoping to find a direction.

I AM ALWAYS WILLING TO LEARN! My host supports asp, asp.net, php and
frontpage but not extensions.

You would have to create a asp based page that would all someone to add/edit data in a database and
protect that page, not the page that would be displaying the content from the database

Yes, exactly. But how - I am a novice - good at reading and trying -can you
lead me to where I can read on such a technique?
