Try this:
Select the cell(s) to be impacted by this change
From the Excel main menu:
<data><validation><error alert tab>
(assuming you already have the validation part working)
Set the Style to: Warning or Information (instead of Stop)
Set the warning message (eg "That item is not on the list...continue?")
That way, non-list entries will trigger a warning, but will still be
accepted if the user chooses.
