I am wandering about specifying the "Allocation Unit
size". I have (origional 80GB) added a 80Gb hard-drive
to my machine. In total there will be four partitions.

C:\ WindowsXP Pro 37.23GB NTFS for basic Desk
Machine

M:\ Microsoft Small Business Server 2003
Professional 37.23GB

O:\ Open- Red Hat Linux 37.23GB, for use with
Unix commands, Perl, CGS and other open system
applications and Oracle 9i Database

P:\ Windows XP Pro 37.23GB, to add on
Microsoft's VirtualPC and use installations from the Pack
like the Microsoft Server 2003 I got from the Uses's
group.

What is the better size to use? or different size
for the applications. I have not been able to find a
article to provide some guidance.

I have the page with the defaults and the like
and understand that the smaller size is of benefit one
way. What about the rest? The only reference I have is
from my SQL training.

Bill,

in the beginning when disks and partitions were small it was
advantageous to increase the cluster size over and above the
standard minimal size, but with the bigger partitions now you
can leave it at the standard size, which is the smallest
possible size. Its effect on performance is small.
