I used word pad to open one document. After, all word files were changed to
wordpad. I have tried to restore to a prior date without success. I know
that I can open a wordpad doc with word; but would like to restore all word
files back to word. How can this be done? I use windows office xp
professional and have all automatic updates from microsoft.

Right click any DOC file - Open with - Choose Program...
Hightlight Microsoft Word
check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

Right click on a Wordpad and select Open With >>Chose program Then try to
select the Office word make sure to check this while the Office word App
selected:
[ √ ] Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

Click [OK].
Now try to open a word doc. Does it open okay?
