All of the following may affect/remove files - some are hidden files,
some may be quite large files or folders that contain many files:
System restore points expiry or settings change, temp files cleanup,
paging file/memory size change, disabling hibernation, temporary internet
files setting change or cleanup, XP's built-in cd writing (or perhaps
3rd-party CD/DVD writing programs) temporary files, antivirus quarantine
cleanup.
If your cluster size is large (do you use FAT instead of NTFS?), a large
number of very small files can take up much more allocated disk space
than the total of the file sizes.
