Hi All,

I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.

I was recently messing about with some program. I forgot the name, as I have
being putting up with this problem for 1 month already.

Now, whenever I do something "ACCESS DENIED".

I have all permissions, but once again "ACCESS DENIED".
If I start the PC Tools Firewall Plus service, which I really need to get
running, "ACCESS DENIED".
Create a new user account and try that one, you guessed it, "ACCESS
DENIED!!!".

I have all permissions, no spyware or viruses, all critical updates, but
nothing will ever work.

I have tried taking ownership of the entire "C" drive. Still, I have that
stupid error. The only thing to be thankful for, is that I am not getting the
dreaded BSOD.

Somebody PLEASE HELP!

Have you turned off 'Simple File Sharing'?

I tried to. But when I looked under the 'View' tab, I could not find it.

Er, don't understand this:

If he's using Home, surely he will never have had a 'simple file sharing' to
tick because Home only has sfs, and will not have seen any security tabs
with permissions on?

Seems he may be using a network perhaps?

In that case, one way he might be denied access is if he has changed his
name on an XP machine hosting his folders, without making an identical
change on the Home m/c.

I recently discovered that the change account details one gets via control
panel in Home, only changes the name of the log on screen (the 'Full Name'):
it does not change the name of the account, so access to the network will be
denied.

In Home, you can get to the real account name via: Run/ control
userpasswords2, and change user name, and groups there.

Er, don't understand this:

I did not turn of SFS but found the 'Security' tab on the 'C' drive
properties, so I continued to set permissions but it still didn't work?

Seems this is the only computer here?

In this case, I never changed the name.

So sorry, it was all because of that stupid registry again.

I have turned off SFS.

Still denied access. Any ideas?
