All Microsoft Security Upgrades Won't Install

Over the last few weeks, each day my computer receives
automatic Windows updates from Microsoft... and none of
them successful installs. I always get "Software trying
to install has not passed Windows Logo testing.... this
software will not be installed."

I just tried Windows Update and tried downloading and
installing the updates directly from the websire. Once
again, all the updates failed to install for the same
reason.

What can I do to solve this? Has some virus infected my
computer as is preventing me from installing Microsoft
updates? I've run Norton Anti-virus repeatedly and it has
come up with nothing...

Windows Update Troubleshooter
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

Copied from the site:

When you try to install a package from the Windows Update Web site you
receive a message stating that the software has not passed Windows logo
testing and will not be installed..

Suggestion 1
==========
This problem can occur if the hotfix installer was referencing:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\edb.log and the file was corrupt. Either
renaming C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\edb.log or renaming the entire
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2 folder will allow the hotfix install to
complete
normally.

Suggestion 2
============
Register the following system files.

1. Click "Start," and then click "Run."
2. Type "regsvr32 licdll.dll" (without quotes).
3. Click "OK."
4. Type "regsvr32 regwizc.dll" (without quotes).
5. CLick "OK."

Suggestion 3
============
This problem can also occur if the Cryptographic Services have been
disabled.To resolve this problem:
1. Click "Start," and then click "Run."
2. Type "Services.msc" (without quotes).
3. Double-click "Cryptographic Services." If the service has been
disabled,enable it.
4. Attempt to download and install Windows Updates again, and then check to
see if the
problem is resolved

Suggestion 4
============
The symptom can occur if the "Microsoft Root Authority" certificate or the
"NOLIABILITY ACCEPTED, (c)97 VeriSign, Inc." certificate under Trusted Root
Certification Authorities has been removed. On another computer that has
the Microsoft Root Authority certificate installed, do the following:
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click "Tools," and then click "Internet Options."
3. Click "Contents."
4. Click "Certificates."
5. Click "Trusted Root Certification Authorities."
6. Scroll down until you locate Microsoft Root Authority certificate.
7. Click "Export."
8. Follow the prompts to export the certificate to "DER encoded Binary
x.509(.CER)file." On the computer that cannot install the update, follow
the steps to import the certificate you saved.

Note just in case you disabled the cryptographic service
Use your WinXP CD and boot to the Recovery Console:

1. Type the following command: Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start
2. Press the Enter key
3. Type: exit
4. Press Return
The computer will now restart.
