As I am sure all of you are aware, I have been struggling with creating my site for quite some time now. I would just like to say THANK YOU to everyone that helped me through this challenging time. I am glad that I now have my site up and running; however, I know that it could still use a little bit of work, especially with the images. I will have to look into a photo editing program, but I need to take a short break from all of this. I was quite stressed over this whole ordeal but am really glad I attempted to do this for my husband, who is the owner of this business

I would GREATLY appreciate it if I could get some professional input on what I have done. This is my first one and I really would like some honest feedback so that I know what I should do for the next one. Ugh :-)

Please visit www.bikerburials.com and please believe me everyone, I am ready for some serious, professional critiquing

Thanks again for all of the help. I couldn't have done it without you

I like it. ;-)
sweet simple ( simple meant as a compliment ) and to the point.

2 things I would change.

1. Each page has a link to itself
2. Get rid of the extra "empty"space at the bottom of the Home page.

Comment: the VML used for the word art is going to cause problems in "some" browsers.
You could take a screen shot of the logo, ( both lines ) paste into IrfanView and save it as an
image and then use the image.

Just a thought.

If you want, email me and I'll do it and email it back. Takes about 30 seconds.

Need alt tags on the graphics
Need text links
Need Privacy Policy
Word art does not always display well in all browsers take a snapshot and
save as a jpg.
Too much white space make a fluid template of 100%
Use sans serif fonts serif fonts are hard to read on the screen
Have you pasted from word? If so you need to lose that formatting
Styles could go into a sheet reducing page load
same with javascripts
You need to work on the SEO join a free SEO Class like
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SEO_Techniques/

Using meta tags h1 tags and employing a few of the above standards will
bring up your rating in the search engines, your top for biker burials but
no where in biker funerals
Don't call your homepage home page.
You need to get link backs, see about linking to biker sites, for your type
of site it looks to be incredibly easy to get linkbacks with other related
biker sites from just the quick google I did.

Include testimonials on your site
instead of package say services

hth Tina

A suggestion on your English: things like "biker" and "biker community"
should not be in quotation marks. That's a general English rule, but it's
even more important on a site devoted to bikers. Quotation marks are for
quotations.

It looks great! I am having problems creating my site,
and is not as easy as I thought. Did you use a template,
or did you start from scratch?
Thanks.

right click the image and select image ot picture properties, in the pop up enter text that will
explain the image.
> Need text links

Maybe. Javascript image swaps run in all modern browsers

> Need Privacy Policy

good idea, need to let folks know threir personal info won't be sold. A privacy page can be a
simple text one.

Looked fine to me. I use "Comic Sans-serif" myself.

> Have you pasted from word? If so you need to lose that formatting

Nope, it's word art.

> Styles could go into a sheet reducing page load

The style is FP generated "on the fly"
> same with javascripts

So is the javascript generated "on the fly" worry about changing it to an external javascript when
you become more familiar with javascript

I guess I should be careful what I ask for. Just kidding! I am so glad for all of these suggestions. Some I don't understand and will have to ask for help but I will work on each one and take care of business. My question to you Steve is should I just download IrfanView? That way (as long as I can understand the program) I could not only fix my logo I created with WordArt I could also resize my images.

I must say that I was caught off guard with such a gracious offer. I may ask you to do it for me, but I always like to try things on my own, first. What do ya think

Thank you so very much

Download and install the *free* IrfanView from www.irfanview.com

It doesn't take long to learn it at all, and it is a very verstile image editing program.
It will resize or resample images ( resample is better ) and change image formats, bmp to
jpg or gif, jpg to bmp or gif and so forth.
It is not however an image "creation" program and only works with pre-existing images.

( it also plays audio and video files and will create screen saver slide shows )

To use it to edit screen shots, open it, then open your web page, press the Print Screen
button, maximize IrfanView, click edit and then paste. Then simply place the mouse
cursor, at the top left of the part you want to "cut" out and then drag down and right.
Click edit > cut, click edit > clear display, click edit > paste, and then save your new
image.

Do the alt text for the images and the privacy page as Tina selected.
Worry about external javascript and style files at some point in the future.

Check out www.searchenginewatch.com for tips on how to get search engines to pick up the
site.

I was hoping to tackle a few of these issues this evening but I can't seem to accomplish even one. I guess the reason I didn't do any of these suggested improvements is because I didn't know how to do them in the first place. So, in order to make sure that I follow the rules/guidelines of this community, should I post each issue separately with a new thread?
Thanks
P.S. - I actually know how to do the alt tags on the graphics. However, I would like to make all changes at once and then publish. I will ask one question for now and then see what the correct procedure is for asking questions.

1. "Each page has a link to itself." How do I correct this? When I created my interactive buttons, I did a link for each button on every page. Is that the problem? Please advise
