I dutifully move my WAB file each time I move to a new Computer. I am happy!

But

I tried to move my Father In law's address book and discovered he seems to
have the Active directory defined. I failed so went home to explore.

My Outook Express has a Directory of Contacts which are made up purely of
items associated with MSN Messenger. But I cannot for the life of me find
out where they are physically stored. Propertis doesn't help in any way
shape or form other than mutted darkly about inentities. it certainly isn't
my Email identities folder - I scoured that with Hexedit.

I then looked in Outlook. My father in law has pointers in outlook to LDAP
Directories including the Active directory. My Outlook refuses point blank
to let me see these LDAP directories so I can't test the hypothesis that the
MSN entries are in the Active Directory nor can test out thoeries of moving
my Father in Law's contacts by exporting and importing the Active Directory
(Complication: he lives 5000 miles away)

I kinda suspect that I should be able to see the LDAP directory list from
outlook but so far haven't been able to invent a way how.

Can anyone demistify me.

Thanks

A

LDAP is a server side stored address list. There is nothing to move locally
you simply reconnect to the server by using the required server settings for
the service.

Note that this is an Microsoft Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.

Here is the link for the right forum

Good Luck!

My problem is with Outlook not Outlook Express. The Outlook in question is
accessing the (?) Active Directory for Contacts and when you do add accounts
(FOR OUTLOOK) the LDAP directories appear for selection. On my Machine they
do not. It would actually be quite convenient if I could read the contacts
Directory that appears in my Outlook NewsReader, (wow, it uses Outlook
express as a Newsreader - bad karma) which appears to be the Contacts
directory used by MSN, which might be the Active Directory but I have no
evidence other than guessing that it is the Active Directory.
on my father in Law's machine, his OUTLOOK is accessing a Contacts directory
that according to the wizard is the Active directory which I need to move
from his OLD laptop to the new one which also uses OUTLOOK not Outlook
Express.
I am trying to make sense of what he appears to do by default with what I
can't do on my machine which, in the long run, would actually be quite
useful.
Thanks

I don't think you are fully aware of what an Active Directory is; it is an
object database that is being used in a Windows Domain and it can be used as
an address list most of the time in combination with an Exchange server.
Microsoft Office Outlook can make Exchange connections; Outlook Express
cannot. Also; you are not in a Windows Domain and your Father in Law is. You
cannot replicate that on your own machine with Outlook Express. MSN has
nothing to do with this.
