All communication stopped- XP stopped reading network

My PC has stopped communicating with my router (I have
DSL) via my NICs. My NICs are on-board so I first assumed
they were the problem and put in an ethernet card- XP
reads/installs the card but it still won't read my
router. Can't repair the network connections- XP tells me
a failure with renewing the IP address. I figured it was
router but my laptop works fine on same router. Tried re-
installing XP to see if maybe a corrupted winsock or
something- no change. I haven't installed anything new
lately. Any ideas, please?
