I have Xp sp2 on a Laptop and on a Desktop. I got the same problem all of the
sudden on both computer.I though it was some kind of virus, but my
antiviruses system (McAffee) can't find anything.

Symptoms:
I insert any kind of CD (CDR or original CD) and they all appears to be
blanks. This is not a CD Device issue, I tried on both machine to use 2
different CD/DVD burner (USB) and they act the same... I am a bit confused. I
also know that it is not a CD issue. For example I insert an original CD of a
game or application in my computer and it appears blank, if I try the same CD
in another (not my desktop) computer it is working...

Can someone help me on that one, it is the first time I see this problem.

Before you go to all the trouble, and potentially
screw over your system trying all the Registry
stuff re: Upper and Lower Filters that everybody
will doubtless suggest here, go get one of those CD Lens
cleaners at Best Buy and use it.

When you put a disc in the drive, do you hear it spin up?

Well, actually the problem ramains on my Desktop, as for my Laptop, I notice
that if I eject the CD and reinsert it, it works. If the CD stays in the
CDROM and I rebot the Laptop, Windows won't see any CD, I will have to eject
and reinsert... I'm pretty sure it is a conincidence that this problem occurs
on both machine, but still this is really strange... As I explained, on my
deskop I even try to use am external burner (USB) and I end up with the same
result... no media detected
