All Appointments and Settings Lost!

When I opened My Calendar this morning I found that all my APPOINTMENT
entries in My Calendar had disappeared! TASK entries were listed but
customised settings had changed - for example colour coded categories had
reverted to default and all my carefully prepared categories had disappeared.
Luckily there was a version in Personal Folders - and I was able to spend a
few hours manually transferring the information - but here too the customised
features had reverted to default. I have the calendar up and running again
but I notice when I close and reopen it some of my instructions (eg to
increase the appointment time from 30 min segments to 60 mins) are ignored
and I have to repeat the instruction. This suggests that somehow Outlook is
not saving properly my entries. My fear now is that I will lose My Calendar
appointments when I close down my PC today. Is this a fault or is it
possible I inadvertently reverted the My Calendar programme to default?
