I'm running windows 2000 DNS with integrated zones and I
can't browse the network with any of my cnames. I can
ping cname and get the the real name of the resource but I
can't browse to it through a UNC path. I get an
error 'duplicate name on the network'. I've checked and
there aren't any duplicate names in DNS. I've created a
test cname and the problem persists. Any suggestions?

Thanks...Sean

Hi Sean,
Make sure you're at service pack 3 or later, then check out this knowledge
base article:

281308 - Connecting to SMB Share on a Windows 2000-Based Server May Not Work
with an Alias Name (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=281308).

I'm running SP4 and this article would indicate a change
on numerous DNS servers.

Actually the registry change only need to be done on the server you are
trying to access by an alias.

This is happening on every cname in the zone. It sounds
like a configuration issue with DNS ohter than the server.
