AIW 9600XT & HDTV Wonder & Thanks

A few days ago I posted a long explanation of how I'd installed the
newest drivers for my AIW 9600XT. Then I ended the post wailing about
how the new drivers suck. Told how I'd learned I needed physically to
remove the HDTV Wonder card and the Remote Wonder II USB unit before
installing new drivers. Told that Guide Plus wasn't working properly.
Didn't bother telling that previous drivers were giving me crappy
reception on channels 3-6. Didn't bother telling that the drivers
previous to those were giving me jerky video when watching TV. Didn't
bother complaining that in my experience every new release of drivers
just made matters worse. I was really really unhappy with my AIW 9600XT
and HDTV Wonder card combination setup.

Then I read a few responses to my post and then I read a few responses
to other recent posts, and then I followed guidance from a few members
of this newsgroup and whaddaya know ... I'm about 90% of the way to
having my computer's video working the way I want.

First: Many thanks to T_Shadow and Ted F and Hark. Great recommendations.

Now here's what I did:

1) Ran ATI's cat-uninstaller.exe to get rid of all ATI software on my
system.

2) Installed 5-13_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_29124.exe which, as Hark pointed
out, is the most current driver pack that allows shut off of On Demand.

3) Installed HDTV Wonder drivers 9-13_mmc_uci.exe.

4) Installed HDTV Wonder software 6-1_hdtv_83-2036_wdm.exe which may
have been my only major mistake. Not sure yet. Maybe should have
installed an earlier version. I seem to be unable to turn off On Demand
with the HDTV Wonder.

5) Installed the DVD player.

6) Installed mmc-9-06-1.exe

7) Installed the Remote Wonder II software.

I had only one error message in all this. Right at the end of all my
installing my computer complained that I was running more than one
instance of ... what was it ... "Winall?" Something like that. But
when I rebooted, the error went away.

And now after a few setup routines I am running my HDTV Wonder and my
All in Wonder and watching DVDs on both monitors (one's a 42" Panasonic
plasma screen with SVGA input) and there's no stutter in my AIW TV video
and I'm a happy camper. The HDTV Wonder works as well as it ever did,
which is not very well, because I live downtown in a big city and I have
poor digital TV reception with the HDTV Wonder's little antenna poked
between the blinds of my window. But that's not a driver problem.

Thanks to all of you who have been discussing these issues here in the
past few days. I gleaned enough info to help me straighten out some
major problems.

Bottom line ... AIW's driver "upgrades" seem actually to be
"downgrades." Returning to some past drivers made things better.

Glad you got it working better. 9.13 was the first with mandatory TVoD for
analog. No version of MMC allows the HDTV Wonder to work without TVoD Get
WatchHDTV for that.

It allows viewing w/o recording and has a better meter for adjusting the
antenna. This sight gives some info about the antenna that may be helpful.

>what was it ... "Winall?" Probably RW and USB drivers. Maybe you didn't

disconnect the RW before installing?
I probably should go back to 9.08 as I'm unable to use the new features, but
I'm stubborn.
Back to the race...........
