I have been rec'ing an error message that states "Microsoft windows search
indexer stopped working and was closed. Aproblem caused the application to
stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solition is available"
Can anyone help me get rid of this?! I was on the phone for approx 4 hours
with HP and it was not resolved. I contacted microsoft and they wanted me to
pay to have a technician assist me with the problem. The computer is approx 1
MONTH OLD....Please help!!!!

Hi,

First, it's HP's problem, don't let them pass you off. They are responsible
for all support of the hardware and operating system. As the system is only
a month old, simply tell them to fix it or use your warranty and return it
for a full refund. Don't be surprised if their "solution" is to do a full
system recovery.

Just a thought, but did this problem start after installing some software, a
driver update, adding hardware, or something from Windows Update? If so, had
you tried uninstalling it?

You could turn Search Indexer off for now until the problem is resolved, or
severely limit it's scope. http://www.tweakvista.com/article39118.aspx

That would work great.....if the service was running. I also get this error
message and when I go to the indexer in CP,...indexing is not running!!!!
So.. I can't make any configuration changes.

From Google
http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...ng-closed.html
Hello.

I just want to say, for the sake of anybody who finds this on Google, that I
fixed it. The trick is to delete all files related to search indexing,
located by default at:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows

and:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Temp

Delete all files and folders in these directories (you might want to make a
backup, I did, but it proved unnecessary).

Then, change the service back to starting automatically. You still can't
start the service until you reboot, at which time Windows will rebuild the
index.

Lee, just wanted to say "thank you" for your information. My Indexing is now
working. I was afraid I was going to have to re-install my system, etc.
Thanks again!
Jerry
