Hello all, my radeon 9700 pro finally gave up after years of abuse. I would
like to know of a similar spec AGP card that I can get to replace it. The pc
it is going into is not used for gaming, but mainly doing photographic
stuff. I have no preference on brand/ manufacturer.

I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when "Carl"

If it not going to be used for gaming, and your photo software does
not use any accelerated 3D graphics, the cheapest card will do.

If you go for the 9800pro you will be able to use all the GUI bells &
whistles if you later upgrade to Windows Vista - it looks really good.

Yeah it does! Have you tried media player 11 and IE7 yet? These are both
improvements on the last ones IMHO. does anyone know if WMP11 runs H262
natively? I ask because band of brothers and over there looked far better
with them.

See if you can still RMA it at ATI.com. I RMA'ed my 9700 pro last year and
they quickly sent me a new 9800 Pro.

Hiya, can you expand on that for me, as I don't know what's required.
I've a 9600 PRO - would that not have the necessary to do Vista tricks?
What makes the difference with cards?

Cheers.

i bought it when they first came out, after the stock fan died i replaced it
with an arctic cooler, and it has lasted a long time since that was put on.
It owes me nothing now and has served me well. no original packaging or
stock fan left either.

I did the same thing but saved the stock fan and heatsink. Came in handy for
RMA. Still getting a new 9800 Pro for the cost of shipping was sweet!
I have started buyingcards built by EVGA. They (and BFG and XFX) have
lifetime warrantys. One or two years is just not good enough for what even a
very old video card is worth.
