after i updated my xp home to xp pro all my previously installed programs
including microsoft office & hardwares appears to be not installed even if
the files & folders are still on my hard disks.

Reinstall your drivers and applications. Hope you had a good reason to
upgrade from Home to Pro. Pray you have a backup of your data.

What Shenan said. Now you'll need to reinstall all of the programs &
hardware from scratch.

my system files was missing or corrupt so i had to fix it but i decided to
upgrade it instead... thanks anyways!

What did you expect to gain by upgrading to Pro that you couldn't get from
doing a repair install of Home?

In the end - the reason and the hopes do not matter.

An in-place upgrade was *not* performed. A clean/parallel installation was.
Hopefully the latter of the two *if* Morpheuz does not have backups. If the
former of the two and Morpheuz has no backups - their data is trashed.

Given their wording (... "even if the files & folders are still on my hard
disks" ...) I don't think the former is the case and it is likely the
latter - although it could be more than a parallel install and they
overwrote the actual WIndows directory.

This seems to be where Morpheuz is at.

If they are not getting a choice of "Windows XP Home" or "Windows XP
Professional" when they turn on the computer, then they did a
clean/over-wrote Windows install (or the Windows XP Home was so messed up,
it did not recognize it as being installed.) What this means is that all
they accomplished by installing Windows XP Professional was likely a machine
that now boots into Windows XP Professional and access to their old files
(any that did not get over-written, that is.) All hardware drivers, all
applications, etc - will have to be installed fresh.

My guess would be they did this because they had no access to Windows XP
Home installation media and they wanted to fix their machine and did have
access to WIndows XP Professional media. Not that it matters.

Then almost certainly, although you think you did an upgrade, you
didn't. You very likely clean-installed XP Professional next to XP
Home.

Why did you want to do an upgrade? In what ways did you expect
Professional to be better for you than Home?
