After upgrading to XP-pro Network and windows all run slow

After upgrading to XP-Pro all PC's are very slow. It takes 10 seconds to retrieve a document out of wordperfect. Everything is real slow. We added memory so all PC's have 512 of ram and we are running point to point with 8 PC's on line through switches

Any ideas'?
