I lost all connectivity with the LAN. Any Suggestions?

If you are running Windows XP SP2:

Start - Run - type "netsh winsock reset" (minus quotes) and press ENTER.

If you are running Windows XP Pre-SP2 or Win2k:

Same here but on XP home. I could not get DHCP to pull an
IP. I switched it to a fixed IP and now have IP based
network access but DNS still will not work. I figure
something in the IP stack is wacked. Am now going to see
if I can find a way to reinstall tcp/IP. I see in the
network section that I can't click uninstall for it.

It is the LSP fix that has been an issue for others. Search
for lspfix.exe for CEXX.org Thanks CEXX!

Its not the MS product, its a problem with a new type of
spyware called the newdotnet spyware. IT re-hooks its own
program code to your winsock .dll files and redirects all
network sub functions to itself. When the spyware
programs (any of them) remove/delete this spyware dll, you
get hosed, Internet/network, DHCP, DNS etc etc etc. The
only thing I have seen fix it is the XP system restore
process.

Newdotnet is not the only cause of this Winsock LSP problem.

And, the fix can be far easier than system restore, which is going to put
back the malware.

In XP SP2,

netsh winsock reset

at a command prompt should do the job, after a restart.

In Windows 2000, there is a KB article explaining how to do this I
believe--cited in other messages in this group.

It is a significant issue for the users affected, but the fix isn't too
arcane or hard to find.

Jack,

Can I get you to post the Scan Results that left you without the Windows
Firewall? This will help us track down what happens.
a.. Launch the Microsoft AntiSpyware
b.. Click Tools, Spyware Scan, View Spyware Scan History
c.. Click on the date of the scan that caused the issue so it is
highlighted.
d.. On the right, click "View full details of scan"
e.. Right click in the text and click "Select All"
f.. Right click in the text and click Copy.
Now you can paste the info into a Group Reply post. There should not be any
personal information, but make sure to review before submission.
