After patching the winxp hotfix my internet conectivity down

my pc is connecting to a switch which working properly. last few days after i patching the winxp updates then my internet connectivity go down. what happening yo it???? after i reformat it and install it again then it only can be connect to internet??? i need to know what actually is going on??? today my friend oso having this problems again. is it got any solutions except reformat pc?????
