After Outlook Connector sync, deleted messages remain in Hotmail

I signed up for Hotmail Plus and immediately used the POP aggregation to
bring all of my Gmail into my Hotmail account. This imported approximately
15,000 messages.

I used Outlook Connector (v 12.0.06423.1000) to sync this to Outlook 2007
(12.0.6316.5000 SP1 MSO 12.0.6320.5000). It took all night but I got all my
messages into Outlook, where I proceeded to delete all but ~100 messages,
create a few folders, and so on. I left things in that state for another day
or so, to allow everything to sync up.

But they have not sync'd yet. Hotmail is still showing 8766/8746
(total/unread) messages in the Inbox; Outlook on my laptop shows 18/0. The
Deleted Items folder is also not synced - on my Outlook, this folder contains
0/0 items; in Hotmail it contains 7081/6981.

In other words, massive numbers of messages deleted in Outlook are not being
deleted in the Hotmail instance.

FWIW, I tried getting support from the Windows Live Help community. Here's
the link: https://windowslivehelp.com/community/t/37528.aspx ... essentially
they fobbed off to the "Outlook Connector Support" Team which I have been
unable to get help from, so I thought I'd try this newsgroup.

Thanks for your consideration of this issue!

Have you tried deleting then readding the account in the Outlook Connector
menu?

Thanks for the reply Brian. I had not tried that! But when I do, I don't see
any clear way to do it. Here's what I saw under the Outlook Connector Menu:

http://f.imagehost.org/0696/outlook-connector-menu.png

But that gave me the idea to try removing and re-adding the account under
Tools/Account Settings. I only had the @live.com account listed there, so it
complained that I needed to have another data file. From File/New I created
one called TEMP, then opened it from File/Open/Outlook Data File. I then
removed the @Live.com account in Tools/Account Settings, and closed Outlook.

In the folder C:\Users\myusernake\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook I moved
all but TEMP.pst to another folder. I reopened Outlook, and used the Outlook
Connector menu to re-add my old account. To save time I also changed the
Download Mode to 'Download Headers'.

Sadly, the Tasks and Notes I had created in the old Live.com account were
NOT automatically moved to the new PST I had created. But I did see that I
was re-downloading all mail into my folders, including Deleted Items.

I let it do that for awhile, and when Outlook seemed to have the same number
of items as the web instance of Hotmail, I went ahead and deleted everything
in Deleted items (6792 emails).

Hotmail still shows all 6792 Deleted Items, even after syncing several
times, closing/ropening Outlook, etc.

To delete them all in the Hotmail web interface would mean 203 manual
actions, since I would have to delete a screen at a time and each screen
holds 25 items. Yecch!

I'm having the exact same problem!

I've deleted hundreds of email already in my outlook but it won't upload the
changes to my msn http inbox. Whenever I send/receive in outlook and I check
my internet inbox, the messages I've deleted are still there. How do I make
my internet inbox reflect my outlook inbox??

Gosh, I can really relate with your dilemma regarding the difficulty in
manually deleting all those email messages in the web interface!!!

Unlike outlook, wherein i can just highlight multiple messages at a time,
the internet inbox of msn requires me to check each message i wish to delete
one by one. This is a hell of a job when you're deleting hundreds of email!

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I can't reproduce this behavior. I can select multiple messages in Outlook,
just as always, then press Delete to have them all go away, both locally and
on the server.

If what you describe were to happen to me, I'd 1) delete the MSN account, 2)
uninstall the Outlook Connector, 3) download the most recent Outlook Connector
(or verify that the one I have if the most recent), and 4) reinstall the
Outlook Connector, and 5) create a new mail profile, adding in my MSN account
from scratch.

Thanks for the reply Brian.

As much as I'd love to follow your suggestion, I'm worried i might lose my
email address (I do not want to make a new one to give out to all my
contacts).

If i delete my msn account and sign up again, what are the chances that i
can still get my old email address (the one i deleted)?

What makes you think you'd lose your MSN address? i don't mean delete the MSN
account on the server, just delete it from within Outlook. That doesn't touch
anything on the server. Clearly you had your MSN account BEFORE you connected
to it with Outlook, correct? Doesn't it make sense to you, then, that doing
anything within Outlook can't hurt the account on the server, that it will
still be there to connect to again?

Thanks for the replies.

I have the latest Outlook Connector version 12.0.6423.1000.

I had uninstalled Outlook Connector (a prior version) and installed the
latest Outlook Connector version 12.0.6423.1000.

I removed the account from MS Outlook and readded it.

It worked at the beginning. I would delete a message from MS Outlook and
the message would be deleted from the account on the web.

Then it stopped working again.
