If you right-click the user object in AD Users & Computers and click Rename,
is this listed in any of the fields there? You'll need to enter something
different and hit Enter to get the full Rename window up (if it isn't in
there then just click Cancel to avoid making changes).
Are you looking at a copy of the GAL on a cached-mode Outlook client? If
so, four things have to happen--and in this order--before recipients show up
in the GAL in Outlook 2003 with cached mode:
1. The object or change must replicate to the domain controller the RUS
uses.
2. The RUS must run and stamp the user with Exchange attributes.
3. The offline address book must be generated. This is a scheduled activity.
4. Outlook 2003 must synchronize itself with the offline address book. This
is directed by Outlook.
If it's not resolved after that, first look at the GAL with a client that is
not using cached mode. If it looks okay there, then you have a problem with
the offline address book. If it doesn't, then you could have a problem with
the address book.
