The date and time was 12/11/2008 2:33 PM, and on a whim, computer dead
(blue screen) pounded out on the keyboard:

Your hard drive could have died. You could have fried the CPU or the
power supply if the fans weren't working properly.

At this point I think it would be best to take it to a local shop,
somewhere recommended by others.

Do the lights come on ?

Do the fans spin ?

Does the monitor screen light up ?

Can you enter the BIOS by pressing the key for that ( <Del> or <F2> or whatever ) ?

For someone to help you, we'd need to know whether the hardware
still works a bit (so you could boot from a CD), or whether
the box has a serious hardware problem (in which case, the
repair shop is where you're headed next).

If you name the computer make and exact model number, it
helps people come up with suggestions as to what to look
for or what to try. For example, some retail computers
have four diagnostic LEDs on them, and you can get a little
bit of information about failure conditions from the LEDs.

The OP emailed me stating he replaced the power supply and it's working
fine now.
