After joining new domain profile is lost

Hi there,
yesterday my laptop was configured to join a new domain.
Everything seemed OK until today I login and get that sinking feeling when I
see the default XP background and the popup with the "Setting up IE for the
fist time" message. Why has XP created a new profile today? I was
connected to the new domain yesterday OK with my old profile. What is going
on here and how do I get XP to use my old profile again?

Joining a new domain will automatically create a new user profile, as
the user profile is based upon the "fully qualified" user account name,
which includes the domain name. The "NewDomain\UserName" is a
completely different user account different from the
"OldDomain\UserName," even though the "UserName" portion of both is the
same. However, the "NewDomain\UserName" profile folders would not have
been created and used until the first time you logged in using that account.

You can use your old profile by re-connecting the laptop to the old
domain, and then logging in to the old domain.
