think my issue is more with Norton registy issues now.
Did get a virtual memory error when trying to run
microsoft afterwards. It never has completly finished a
scan yet.

You should check the Symantec KB contact them, especially if you have had
previous versions of NAV or other Sym products come and go.

I run MS-AS and NAV 2005 with no problems so something's clearly wrong. Have
you re-installed (and perhaps re-downloaded) MS-AS?

If you can't complete a scan in normal mode, I would try restarting in safe
mode and scanning. Can you observe any consistency in where the scan quits
or hangs?
