What after FrontPage?

I have been using FrontPage for a number of years now to run a simple web
site for my orgnisation. My hosting company now tells me they are withdrawing
FrontPage Server Extensions at the end of July!

That is a real pain for me as I have now develpment skills and have used
FrontPage for its simplicity. I use forms and other FrontPage features that
require extensions, so if I have to make a change now, do I go for something
entirely differenty.

I have downloaded the trial version of Expression Web and DreamWeaver, and
neither seem as simple as FrontPage. Is there anytrhing out there that I can
use that will be as simple as FrontPage, but will not rely on Extensions or
my turning into a developer????

Hi Techno... I had the same problem and found the best solution is to find a
new hosting company. I was with 1and1 and they told me the same thing.... but
there are many hosting companies that will be supporting FrontPage for years
to come.

Get a Hosting Company that uses cPanel for managing the Linux hosting
space.
Per cPanel's website: "Is cPanel continuing to support FrontPage Extensions?
How about on Apache2? Answer: Yes, cPanel will continue to support FrontPage
Extensions for the forseeable future. Additionally, FrontPage Extensions are
supported on Apache 1.3, 2 and 2.2."

.... and my new hosting company uses Apache 1.3 with no real plans to change.

Many hosting companies plan on supporting FP extensions indefinitely.
Some of my favorites from recent research are:
eVerity
CyberLand
Kionic
NitroZone
.... but I was just looking for small ones and may have different needs than
you do.

So.... we're talking YEARS before FrontPage Extensions won't work.

I hope this helps!

Hi,

One option for your forms is to just use a form-to-email script.

I'm on 1and1, and a few months ago was informed they would no longer support
the FP extensions.

So I found a great (free!) form-to-email script that does even more stuff
with forms than I could do with FP extensions.

Check it out here:

I always publish with an FTP program, so getting my forms to work was the
only thing I used the extensions for... so finding a good form-to-email
script was a real god-send.

hth,
James

I just signed up with 1 and 1.
I want FrontPage extensions just for the http:// publishing.
It's still available in my account control page.

Hi Chris,

Yes, I forgot to mention that I'm using a Linux hosting package. I'm pretty
sure 1and1 still supports the extensions on the Windows packages.
