when i cut and paste a number of presentations together which have
incosistent slide layouts, ovioulsy the layout of the slides varies. Is there
a way to re-format all slides all at once to a consistent look?

I suggest that you insert slides from presentations, or open the
presentations in the Slide Sorter view, and drag the slides from one
presentation to another. doing it this way will give you options to keep the
slide formatting or take on the format of the receiving presentation. Cut
and
Paste is not the way to go.

Go to slide sorter view, select all the, say, bulleted slides. Choose Format
| Slide Layout. Click the arrow next to the bulleted slide layout ("Title
and Text") and choose "apply to selected slides."

Repeat for title slides and other layouts.
