After bckup file;Restore can't find?

Hi
I have create a windows complete PC backup with system and maintenance/
backup and restore center in windows vista and I store it on a exterior hard
drive
and after I have install Norton antivirus it have cause some problem in my
pc and I have disentail it but the pc still not working properly and I
want/need to restore my computer to that restoration (windows complete PC
backup) that I have made and save to the external hard drive but windows will
not find the restoration I have copied to the partition that normally is save
on the pc (Local Disk D) but still no find it can you help I need to restore
my pc to this restoration.
