The Norton WMI update for 2004 products, previously available through
LiveUpdate,
has been removed for maintenance purposes.

An updated Norton WMI is projected to be available by LiveUpdate in late
September/early October.

Thank you for that latest "Love Note" from Symantec

Would you agree that Symantec just doesn't load up
enough Services at this point? I think they could add
about 10 more if they put their minds to it.

In this instance, Symantec uses the WMI component to "report" to WinXP SP2
Security center that its AntiVirus is installed and up to date (computer
protected). The patch applies ONLY to AntiVirus 2004 and Internet Security
2004 releases. Earlier versions (2003 and earlier), must use the check mark
in Security Center (SP2) that it is not being monitored - but your AntiVirus
package is monitoring separately.

Purpose

Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a component of the Microsoft®
Windows® operating system and is the Microsoft implementation of Web-Based
Enterprise Management (WBEM), which is an industry initiative to develop a
standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise
environment.

Where Applicable

WMI can be used in all Windows-based applications, and is most useful in
enterprise applications.
