I'm in need of some advise for moving and upgrading our current system. We
currently host our company over a wireless but the performance is starting
to degrade so we would like to set a "host" server at the ISP. We currently
have Windows 2000 server acting as the gate, primary domain controller and
DNS. We have a second machine (also Win2000 server) that acts as a backup
domain controller and also has Exchange Server 2000. I would like to take a
Win2003 server make it a domain controller and promote it to the primary.
This machine will then be moved to the ISP. In addition it will have
Exchange 2003 and host the web site. This is a fast machine and only 10
developers will access it when on the road or from there home office. The
actual web site has very little traffic. We currently have a lot of
information in exchange and in addition to a files on a couple of other
servers and don't want to loose the accounts by starting fresh (SID
problem).
Now, at the current site I will rehost the server so that it becomes a
subdomain in the forest. That is the name will be something like
SiteId.OurDomain.com. I also need to limit when ActiveDirectory updates our
done so as not to take up much of the wireless during "prime time".
Does all this sound like a reasonable approach?
Thanks,
Rick
