Advice Needed On Setting Up Small Network

Hi,

I am currently setting up a network between just two
computers. I am fine at using a computer but don't have any
experience at all setting up a network. Both coputers have
Windows XP Professional and Ethernet Cards. With only two
computers can I simply plug an Ethernet cable in between
both computers or do I have to have a special hub or
anything else like that? You help will be greatly appreciated.
