Hi again,

What is the best way to advertise your site once it is up and running. I've
seen a comment on here that web hosts that offer to submit your site to
thousands of search engines are just not worth the trouble, i'm willing to
consider any options, but just wanted to know what ideas people thought were
the best way to procede,

Many Thanks,

Ollie

In 2 words: Links, Data
If you have links TO your site and it has data related to the site
name and it is in data form and not word art, you'll get listed.

I have never advertised a site except as a tag line on my sig, as
follows.

Is your site selling stuff, personal web site, just information...?

You will want to
1. list your site in th major search engines.
2. tell you potential audience about it.
3. have links to your site from other sites.

There are many ways to do #2. It will depend don your audience and your
budget. Free newsletter is a common way to publicize the site and
generate traffic.

Register your site at the open directory project: www.dmoz.org and then be
patient.
If dmoz lists it, all major search engines will follow.
