I seem to have a virus/trojan that neither Norton nor Ad-Aware are able to deduct. There is a file called c:\windows\advb.exe on my machine that I can find no information about. Even if I rename the above file and reboot my machine, it gets installed again. I turned off system restore - but this file still turns up on my machine.

Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated? Even getting information on what this program or how to remove it does would help.

sounds like some other piece of software on your system 'recreates' the
file.
Try and do a search on your disk for files *containing* a reference to
advb.ex or advb in an attempt to find who's putting it back.
(Maybe a good idea to *not* have internet connection, to avoid it getting
put back from the net)

have a look at the posting subjected "spyware", a couple of postings up or
down on this forum, depending ow you have your list sorted.
It suggests it might be something randomly generated each startup (like the
dll, referenced in that post) and follow the urls mentioned there.
Other than that I wouldn't know at the moment.
good luck, hope you strike gold.
