Hi,
what are the advantages of Vuescan 8.0 over the latest versions Vuescan 6.x?
I have the version before the last one; is it worth for me to upgrade?
What exactly are the "user-interface improvements" in Vuescan 8.0?

Thank you in advance,
Oleg.

Depends on the scanner you use, and the exact VueScan version you use. For
details see: <http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#changes>

For Windows XP it now assumes the WinXP look instead of a traditional look.
That adds useful visual clues e.g. as to which tab is active. I'm less
pleased with the white background.
I have no experience with VueScan 8.0 on other platforms.

On Mac OS X, it now assumes the Panther 'Brushed Metal' look instead of
a traditional look.

Silverfast and EpsonScan yes?

Thanks in advance.

No, VueScan is not a Twain module but it's a stand-alone scanner driver. It
saves its output files on disk, after which you can open them as required
(or have it sent to Photoshop for loading). One of the benefits is that it
won't lock-up Photoshop during the sometimes long scan pass. You can work on
one file, while the next one is being produced in the background.

It is also very benign to your system because it doesn't mess with your
computer (other than install in its own folder, and store a single license
code in the Registry).

I have Scan Elite 2 and Windows XP Vuescan 7.6.83 - the one before the
last 7.x; it looks like there are no reasons for me to switch versions
right now, are there?

Oleg.

Actually, I have grown rather enamored of Epson's scanning software
which came with my new Epson Perfection 4870. FINALLY, when I insert
strips of negatives, I have software which can isolate the frames,
color-correct them and batch-scan them in. This is a horrible chore in
Vuescan.

Don't get me wrong; for single frames, I'd still use Vuescan. And I'll
try 8.0 to see how it does. But I wish Ed could get the program to
automate the flow a little more.

It seems functionally identical.

I gave it a ride on Windows 2000, all seems to be perfectly ok
albeit I do not have a physical scanner on this computer, I only
play with raw-files a bit in a break.

I agree with the objection to the white background: It is like
having a flood light being directed against tour eyes. The previous
gray background with its approx. 50% luminosity is a perfect choice!

Please Ed, give us a chance to change this setting to grey!!
And to use the histograms on the entire width of the panel!
