What is the advantage of using dynamic storage over basic storage?

Question 1)Does anyone know what is the advantage of
using dyanamic disk (dividing disk into volume) over
using basic disk(dividing disk into partition)?

Question 2) Can you also pls quote the characteristics of
dynamic disk and basic disk respectively?
