Cookies settings in IE6 are under Tools | Internet Options | Privacy.
What is your freeze problem?

Carol do this

Thanks to Lucky Dog , I hope it works for you also as i spent some time
trying to figure it out.
Also visit Symantec to clean further ( it's the NETPAL spyware )
The URL is: http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.netpal.html

Here's the fix that worked for me
Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced then UNCHECK "Enable
third-party browser extensions"
then reboot.
Worked for me hope it helps someone else.

Carol,

I think you may not be reading carefully enough.

The option you were looking for is called
Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)

There is a fuller description of the option and the procedure
you should follow to disable it in this article:

<title>KB298931 - How to Disable Third-Party Tool Bands and Browser Helper Objects</title>

BTW this procedure should be regarded as a diagnostic only.
If you find that doing this fixes your symptom you may also find that
features that you want to use no longer work.

Other posters, Ramesh for example, give you some ideas for follow-up
if that is the case. You probably should do it anyway because even if you
don't notice any secondary problems now you might subsequently try to
install something which requires it which then wouldn't work. Then you
would have to remember having disabled the option which is needed
for the new feature to work. And then you would have to do the follow-up
diagnosis anyway.

Look for posts which refer to BHODemon specifically for a tool
you could use to find the real culprit if unchecking the above option
changes your symptom.

HTH

Carol,

As Robert said, it's the "third-party browser extensions" option. By disabling third-party browser extensions, you're asking Internet Explorer not to load the add-ons, but they are still left in the system. Also, the required BHOs are also ignored by Internet Explorer [such as Google Toolbar and others which you want] You need to acquire an utility like BHODemon or ToolbarCop to spot the BHOs by disabling them one-by-one.

Using ToolbarCop to remove the unwanted Toolband, Toolbar Icons and BHO:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm [Manage the BHOs & Toolbars. Both load as COM objects and operate in same memory context as IE]

BHODemon - You can manage the BHOs
