Neither my former Outlook 2003 nor just upgraded Outlook 2007 will save the
Play a Sound or Show envelope settings. I need to reset them each time
Outlook is opened. Any thoughts?

If you notice the settings go missing between OS logon sessions, then I
would ask, is your site is enforcing mandatory user OS profiles.

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

What it means is, are you working for a company that enforces desktop and
application settings? If the answer is yes, then they are controlling what
the settings should be. You would work with your corporate support staff
when something is amiss.

If you are a home user, what happens if you create a new operating system
user id and try Outlook? Do the settings stick between system reboots?
