Hi all,
I have a Win2k server which acts as a gateway PC for our internet
connection, using 2 Network cards. On the internal side of things, we
have 130 users on a standard 10/100 lan setup. On the external side,
the gateway is connected to the internet via a BT Router and a BT
Openworld 2mb ADSL connection. The data transmitted to and from the
internet is handled by Routing & Remote Access.
The problem we have is that recently, internet traffic has been
slowing down quite considerably. HTTP pages such as MSN.com used to
load in under 2 secs - they are now taking up to 15 seconds or longer.
Downloading files has also slowed considerably, perhaps by up to 60%.
I've done a lot of the standard checks on the server - scanned for
spyware, adware, ran netstat and check the connections, etc, and there
seems to be nothing untoward. There's 8gb of disc space free and 512mb
ram so I don't feel the computer is short on resources. This also
wouldn't explain why its only slowing down now.
The only other thing I noticed is that whenever you restart the server
and the router and log back into windows, internet speed is quite fast
for about the first 20 secs. THEN it slows down over a period of a few
minutes. I've checking the running services and processes here too but
there's nothing out of the ordinary.
Help!
