Adobe Installation Failure

This should probably go on the "Application
Compatibility" group, but it's currently not working.
I'm trying to install Adobe Ill. 8 on winxp: autoplay
comes up but nothing happens after selecting the install
button. I tried Prog. Comp. Wizard on the install CD
(using all options at different times) with same result.
I disabled autoplay & tried again: same result.

This install disk starts normally on my old win95 PC.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what this cryptic message means, but if I'm
supposed to post on the Adobe forum: I've already done
that. There was a reply, but it did not solve the
problem.
