Adminstratively assigned offline files not syncing

Ok, this is a cross-post, so flame away, but I don't get any response at my
fav ng: .backoffice.smallbiz2000.

Hi,

I've scratched my head over this a lot but can't come up with a good reason
Administratively Assigned Offline Files set via Group Policy won't sync on
my laptops. I've found this question posted on the MS.pub.win2k.file_system
group (archives) without answer. There's no corresponding WinXp newsgroup,
and this is a darn responsive group, so I'm trying here.

Domain Controller is SBS2k (with Win2kSP3, all current security patches, all
other BO apps patched up too). WinXPPro laptops in the OU to which the GPO
is applied. All GPO options set in machine (not user) settings. SBS2k is
the only DC (though running in mixed mode). It's also running DFS service
(or XP clients can't get Group Policy). There's also a FreeBSD machine on
the LAN running Samba services to serve out a CD-ROM drive array.

The laptop reside in an OU all their own (nested in the My Business object).
The only GPO linked to that OU (aside from the default domain GPO) has these
Offline Folders options set in the machine configuration Administrative
Templates: "Allow or Disallow use of Offline Files feature" - enabled,
"Synchronize all offline files before logging off" - enabled,
"Administratively assigned offline files" - enabled (with the desired
folders entered as UNC paths in the Value Name field, Value left blank),
"Subfolder always available offline" - enabled. Reminder baloons are
defeated, the offline cache is encrypted and default cache size is cranked
up via other settings here too, but these are the pertinent ones.

This seems to me enough to make laptops in that OU automatically sync up the
assigned folders when any user who can access those folders logs off, BUT IT
DOESN'T!

I've checked the RSOP mmc snap-in. The policy precedence and such is
working as designed with nothing over-riding the Laptop OU's GPO settings
here. I can view the successfully applied registry settings on the target
laptops. I can logon to any of these laptops and manually set a file to be
available offline, and it does (on logoff). But, still, no synch of the
administratively assigned selections happens (not even when the manually
synced file is within one of the admin. assigned folders). Even autocaching
of offline files enabled shares on the SBS2k machine works fine (i.e., files
actually accessed by the laptops from these shares are autosynced and
available offline). It seems to make no difference to what degree I lock
down Offline Files with the GPO; no matter how open or closed the config.,
admin. assigned offline files don't sync! What am I missing? I find
nothing on this on Technet and no errors of interest on either the laptops,
the DC or the servers that house target shares. GP changes propogate nicely
to clients, and I've used them to distribute repackaged apps and many other
settings without problem.

Thanks,
Andy
