Our Win 2000 Domain Server has developed a problem whereby
the Administrator cannot logon. When admin logon completed
screen turns to black background, which is admin's
personal setting, logon sound plays and mouse pointer
changes to arrow and hourglass. Screen then remains blank,
no desktop icons or task bar appear. Mouse pointer is
active and is single arrow with no hourglass. Keyboard
does not respond to any keystrokes not even
CTRL+ALT+DELETE. User has no option but to power machine
off.
Installed server applications and Oracle database running
on server are not affected and other client connections to
server are working OK.
Other server logons are not affected, they work OK, only
the Admin logon fails.
Although similar to Article 256194 - "No Desktop or Blank
Desktop After Logging On to Windows 2000" it is the fact
that there is no keyboard response after logon that is
causing the problem.
Disk has been defragged and page file moved, but still no
improvement.
Regard,
Noel
