I am logged in as an administrator, but when I try to install a program like
macromedia shockwave or flash player I get an error message that tells me
that access is denied and that I need to use an administrator's account...I
have tried system restore point, but it didn't work, still had the same
problem...any suggestions?

Log on in Safe Mode as the Administrator ( not your usual Logon ) and
this should enable to change all permissions for your own for day to
day use. Grant your self Special Permissions.
