On my login screen I am able to log in as a guest but the icon for the
administrator is missing. How do I get it to come back?

The built-in Administrator account is not meant to be used for daily
work; it is there for emergencies. In XP Home you can only access the
built-in Administrator account in Safe Mode. In XP Pro, the built-in
Administrator account on the Welcome Screen is hidden once another user
account with administrative privileges is created. This is by design.

If you were using the built-in Administrator account for your daily
work, create a new user account for yourself and copy the settings and
data from the Administrator account to the new one. You will need to
log into the new account once before you can copy anything to it.

I don't use it for everyday purposes. I have the guest account limited and
need to access the administrator account to download, change software, enable
hardware, etc...My version is Pro, how do I access the account?

And neither should you use the Guest account either! MS itself see it as a
security risk. Create a new, limited User account and use that.

Normally, if there is no other Admin account set up, and you use the Welcome
screen, it should appear on there. If you use the welcome screen and it
isn't there, then press Ctl-Alt-Del twice. the W2K style log-in box should
appear. Log in as Administrator from there.

You should create a new user account for yourself with administrative
privileges as I suggested.

You should not enable the Guest account. The Guest account is a system
account used to allow someone without a user account on the local
system to log on and do some work. It runs with elevated privileges and
that is why it is considered a security risk and normally disabled.
Create a Limited user account and call it "visitors" or the like
instead.
