The Administrator account does not appear in the list of users in the
friendly logon screen in Windows XP Professional. Is there some way I can
get that account to appear there? Thanks.

"friendly logon screen" - do you mean the Welcome Screen?

Yes.

But should you do that? No. Just hit Alt-Ctrl-Del at the Welcome Screen to
get a Login window to log in as Administrator.

Your day to day user account should be a restricted user as well.
Administrator and Administrator privileges should only be used sparingly in
situations where such elevated privileges are mandatory to get the job
done, and NO other time.

Remember, anything you run or look at in a browser or email as Administrator
also gets Administrator privileges. Also remember that Administrator
bypasses all security and safeguards built into the OS. Using
Administrator as your usual login leaves you much more vulnerable to your
own mistakes (we all make them sooner or later), viruses, mal-ware, poorly
formed/malicious webpages, etc. Crackers are attacking home systems
primarily these days because they're often always on with lots of
bandwidth, often with security features disabled or not utilized properly,
and just ripe for the taking. Popularly these days, they're used in
botnets to distribute spam, which could cause you to lose your ISP account
and be required to pay a penalty cleanup cost for spamming if you end up a
victim.

So is making it easier to gain Administrator privileges a good idea? Never.
Use the security features you have at your disposal to your advantage
instead of trying to rip them out. Consider yourself a bigger target than
the government and plan your security accordingly.

Long time no hear. You are up to your same trolling technique. Why not just say that you found the KB in question instead of posting that you have this issue and then showing the associated KB like you have looked for it and found it on your own.

Find a interesting KB and then posting it as an issue that you have . ???

Hi Rock. I know it is also called Fast User Switching but I wasn't sure if
I mentioned that if ya'll would know what I was talking about. Since I had
a user who was all upset that he didn't have the Administrator account there
after he added another user with Admin privledges, I found that article in
my search for him and thought that was what it was called. But yes the
Welcome screen I temember that also.

Yes Paul I know and you are right. I had a user in Mexico that thought he
had hosed his system because he couldn't access stuff with a new uset he
added with Admin privledges. I knew about this and so told him I could put
it in his Welcome screen but forgot how I did it. All my XPs are in a
domain so I don't use the Welcome Screen. Hopefully he won't be back with a
really hosed system because he is surfing under that account or I willl
really have my work cut out for me.

Fast user switching is the technique of going between accounts without
logging them out. The Welcome Screen has to be active for FUS to work. But
the screen FUS takes you to is the Welcome Screen. I'm sure you're right
George, had you mentioned FUS, I don't think anyone here would have known
what you were talking about.
